Saying Goodbye When You Move

By Relocation.com Staff

Saying goodbye when you move is never easy. Most likely you and your family will be parting with many people who you have known for several years and have always been able to depend on. Allow yourself time to grieve over leaving friends and favorite places rather than avoiding the situation.

Here are a few tips to help ease the parting process:

  • Most likely you and your family will be parting with many people who you have known for several years and have always been able to depend on. Allow yourself time to grieve over leaving friends and favorite places rather than avoiding the situation.
  • Encourage your family to stay in touch with friends through phone, e-mail or letters. Let them know their friends are welcome to visit at your new home anytime and their relationships are important. You could even suggest they compile a ‘memory box' or video to look back on when the separation gets tough.
  • Talk about everyone's worries and remember the good times you shared in your home. Reassure them that you are moving on to make more wonderful memories and will always be connected to their old ones.
