Being a relatively small city of 32,959 individuals, Bothell is a well-knit community where everyone has a place.

Economy:
Bothell has a total land area of marginally above 12 square miles on which 2,735 residents live per square mile, making the city one of average population density. The population of the city was recorded in mid 2009 as just under 33,000 residents, an increase since 2000 of 9.3 percent. The city forms part of the Seattle Metropolitan Area, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, King County International Airport and Kenmore Air Harbor Seaplane Base provide the city with air connections.

Up until the 1990s, most of Bothell’s inhabitants worked in the large nearby cities, but this has now changed with the influx of businesses to the city (mainly in the North Creek and Canyon Park business districts), which now employ upwards of 20,000 residents. Biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment production, as well as engineering, computer technology and telecommunications are the big earners and employers of this new economy.

History:
The area we now know as Bothell was originally inhabited by the Sammamish Native American tribe.

In 1885 a settler from Pennsylvania, David Bothell, purchased 80 acres of land in the area and a postal station was built. The settlement was named Bothell in 1888 in his honor. Also in 1888 a railroad was constructed to the town which facilitated the transportation of coal to the settlement and, in 1909, Bothell was officially incorporated as a city.

Bothell plays host to amazing festivals each year. The two day City of Bothell Freedom Festival to celebrate American Independence; the La Fiesta Viva! which celebrates the city’s Latino cultural heritage; and the Harvest and Pumpkin Carving Festival.
