Auburn, Washington

Situated between the bustling cities of Seattle and Tacoma and in view of the majestic Mt. Rainier, Auburn, Washington is located in the heart of the thriving Green River Valley. The superb location, abundant land and countless facilities make it an excellent place to start business. Seattle is located only a half hours drive away and Tacoma is within a 20 minute commute. The quality of life is the most attractive feature of the city. Hundreds of people prefer moving to Auburn because of the comfortable life and tradition of outdoor activities.

Economy:
The city has been a hub for farming, industry and trade business for more than 150 years. Most of the growth in the city is due to its metropolitan link with the nearby Seattle. However, despite the growth housing prices are still reasonable which is one of the reasons why people prefer moving to Auburn. The city earns a lot from tourism. Most of the tourists are from the nearby Seattle. The main attractions in Auburn are its outdoor activities. Many people are willing to spend openly every weekend to relax and enjoy here after their tough work in Seattle. Due to cheap land, there are a number of industrial giants in the area. The list includes the Auburn Boeing Plant which was opened in 1966. The plant employs 11,000 employees and is the third largest employer in Auburn. Other industries include Oak Harbour Freight Lines, Miles Sand and Gravel, Armstrong Construction, Timberland Homes and POE construction.

History:
The area of Auburn was rich in vegetation and dense forests for hundreds of years. The area had unpredictable floods and was a fishing hub for Native Indians. The first town in the area was Slaughter, named in honour of William Slaughter who was killed in 1855 during a clash with Indians. Sometime later, a group of pioneers from Auburn, New York came and settled here in an attempt to start business. These people were successful and soon became the main authority in the town. The name was changed by them to Auburn, after their hometown in New York. The Native Indian tribes that inhabited this area were the Stkamish, Skopamish and Smalhkamish. Three sites in Auburn are included in the National Register of Historic Places.
