Corpus Christi, Texas

When moving to Corpus Christi, you will instantly find a mix of amenities from the great outdoors to a vibrant choice of attractions and actions. The City’s two nicknames say it all: “Sparkling City by the Bay”, and “The Real Windy City” so you had better hang on tight!

Economy:
The local economy of Corpus Christi thrives on the impressive contributions of the tourism sector, petrochemical industry, shipping, military, defense contractors, the healthcare sector, government, retail and higher education too, and this diversification largely shields the financial stability of the region from the dangers of “too many eggs in one basket.” With change and improvement a constant in business, over the past decade Corpus Christi has been restoring, renewing and reinventing itself. From a fabulous new 10,000-seat arena to a stunning waterfront baseball park, the city planners are creating a world-class City on the Texas coast. This Port City is the sixth largest in the country and continues to expand to attract more world trade. The Bay Area continues to be a good money-spinner, attracting visitors and locals to relax and unwind. If your are planning on moving to Corpus Christi you will find that affordable living, a new and upgraded infrastructure and a real sense of excitement awaits you there!

History:
According to records Corpus Christi was named after the Feast Day of Corpus Christi as it was celebrated by Spanish explorer Alonzo Alvarez de Pineda and his men as they put ashore on a lush semi-tropical bay in 1519. Corpus Christi started out in 1838 as a frontier trading post founded by Colonel Henry Lawrence Kinney, an early-day entrepreneur, although it remained somewhat obscure until 1845, when United States troops set up camp in town in preparation for war with Mexico. The name “Corpus Christi” was only officially bestowed on the town in 1847, which was finally incorporated in 1852. The year 1926 witnessed the opening of the port of Corpus Christi, finally realizing the efforts aimed at opening a deep-water-port that had begun some 80 years before. A Naval Air station followed in 1941. In more recent times, the community of Corpus Christi was shocked by the tragic shooting death of Tejano singer Selena on March 31, 1995, which sparked a huge outcry within the Latino community.

Tourism:
Whether you are planning on moving to Corpus Christi or just taking a vacation you will not be lost for things to do. “Corpus” as the locals call their City is a charming Port City featuring many renovated historic buildings around Heritage Park. There are several interesting museums well worth sampling and learning about how the City developed. Visit the impressive Harbor Bridge, which takes you from downtown Corpus Christi to the Texas State Aquarium against a unique backdrop in the form of the 274-meter Aircraft Carrier the USS Lexington. If you have time, and want to soak up the sun you should visit nearby Padre Island, a staggering 70-mile stretch of white sandy beaches in undeveloped coastal parkland. Looking for somewhere to stay? Beachfront hotels are plentiful and very appealing, most of them offering impressive coastal and marina views from the rooms. The local waterfront and promenade area also offer a number of hotel stays ranging from budget to the ultra-luxury.
