Kingsport, Tennessee

Kingsport, Tennessee is a mainly industrial town located mostly in the Sullivan County. The Appalachian Mountains set the backdrop and two comparably sized cities make the perimeter. The city is famous for its pioneering industrialists and entrepreneurs who set up the favourable initial environment for the city’s economic growth. The 44,905 strong city sees a lot of new comers every year as large number begin moving to Kingsport, attracted by its progressive business culture and supportive administration.

Economy:
The city has favourable demographics for a number of industries and businesses. For this reason, many people prefer setting up operations in the city. As it also offers excellent residential communities, many people end up moving to Kingsport. The estimated median household income is around $34,019 per year. After 2010, the median home prices have rocketed up to almost $200,000. This makes for a very promising investment opportunity which many businessmen are trying to avail. The rise in prices is mainly due to the large amount of new comers in the city. Moving companies in Kingsport have found a lot of profitable business as a result of this. The manufacturing sector is very strong and accounts for most of the employed male workforce. Healthcare and other service sector businesses are also very profitable and have brought in professionals from all over the state to Kingsport.

History:
Early pioneers named the area around the Holston River, “King’s Port.” The area was a very important place in the history of the region. It was home to the sacred council of the Cherokee tribe and was a meeting place for treaties and many other agreements between natives, pioneers and settlers. In fact the name Tennessee comes from the Yuchi Indian word “Tana-see”, which means “Meeting place.” The Holston River was first chartered by boat in 1822 and became a very important channel for much of the trade and transport in the region. The conjoining river systems led to the Ohio River and eventually to the Mississippi River and on to New Orleans. This made Holston very important and resulted in a number of settlements being established along it.

Tourism:
Kingsport has a number of recreation opportunities for both tourists and residents. The Bays Mountain Park is a famous location. Then there is the Cloud Park, the Eastman Recreation Area, the J. Fred Johnson Park, Riverfront Park and the Centennial Boat Yard Park. Overtime a number of shopping centres have also opened. The list of the most famous shopping locations includes the Green Acres Shopping Centre, Midtown Shopping Centre, Southland Shopping Centre, Kings Giant Plaza and the Fort Henry Mall. Kingsport also has three golf courses to cater for the large number of golfers in the city.
