West Chester, Pennsylvania is located in the south eastern sector of the state and forms part of the Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington metropolitan area. History:
The original settlement in the area now known as West Chester was called Turk’s Head after the Turk’s Head Inn which was build on land that is now the center of the Borough.
In 1786 West Chester became the seat of the Chester County local government and in 1799 was officially incorporated as a borough.

Tourism:
Architecture is one of West Chester’s greatest charms. It has more than 3,000 colonial structures still in existence which date from before the Revolutionary War; as well as many beautiful Victorian and a large number of stately Greek Revival masterpieces in its downtown area which are listed on the National Register of Historical Places. The Borough’s courthouse was designed by Thomas U. Walter who was also one of the architects of the Capitol in Washington D.C. Other notable places of interest in The Borough of West Chester are the Brandywine Battlefield, Valley Forge and Longwood Gardens.

• West Chester is also known as the Athens of the West because of the large number of Greek Revivalist building in its downtown area.
