History:
Although Henderson emerged during World War II as an important provider of magnesium, the magical metal of its day and vital in the production of incendiary ammunition, its long term future was not really ensured until April 1953 when it was incorporated as a City. In 1947, the Nevada Legislature had invested time plotting a viable way ahead for it, and to save it from imploding after major down-sizing of the BMI Production Plant. This hope was realized when legislators unanimously approved a bill granting the Colorado River Commission of Nevada the right to purchase the BMI industrial plants, thereby avoiding the alternative of the factories being sold off as war surplus. And so a City that only celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2003 found itself well on the way to recovery and expansion, thanks to excellent planning by the State of Nevada’s leaders.

Tourism:
Henderson, Nevada rates itself as a premier residential community offering both citizens and visitors abundant cultural attractions, regular special events and loads of open spaces with unique trails to explore. On the one side you are not far from the glitter of Sunset Strip, while the total opposite holds good in terms of the serenity offered by Mount Charleston.
