The last two names were given by postmaster. In 1854 William Wilkins Glenn incorporated the Curtis Creek Mine, Furnace and Manufacturing Company as his family property. Glenn’s descendants continued the business and made Glenburnie an official state subdivision in 1888. The family started development for a town on their land and settled there. In 1930, a postmaster split the two words in Glenburnie to form the official name Glen Burnie.
