History:
The settlement of Bowling Green was established in 1798, but it did not prosper until the growth of steamboat commerce on the Barren River began; and railway links which were first connected to the settlement in 1832 continued the trend. Bowling Green was incorporated as a city in December 1810.

Tourism:
General Motors plays a huge part in the modern culture of Bowling Green and, in its honor, the city plays host to the National Corvette Homecoming each year (and has done since 1981). The National Corvette Museum was opened in 1994 and is located near the General Motors plant.
