History:
The area was originally inhabited by the Cherokee Indians. During the war in 1812, an Indian trail was made through the city which connected Fort Peachtree to Fort Daniel. The trail is now known as the Old Peachtree Road. The main wave of settlers came to the area in 1818 after the Gwinnet County was founded. Duluth was established by Evan Howell originally. However, in 1871 the city was renamed to Duluth, after a similar city in Minnesota. The railroad arrived to the city the same year and brought more settlers. The railroad also encouraged business and industry. The nearby city of Atlanta was a main player in the growth of Duluth. Overtime, the rich people in Atlanta preferred Duluth as a residential place.
