Economy:
Once ranked by Forbes Magazine as one of the “25 Best Places for Business,” Colorado Springs should be your number one location to relocate to if you are looking to improve your career and lifestyle. The city’s economy is largely based on the military installations in the area that employs about one-fifth of the city’s workforce. Fort Carson, a U.S. Army base, is the city’s single largest employer that employs more than 15,000 people. The U.S. Air Force Academy, Fort Peterson Air Force Base and the North American Air Defense Command are also major employers. In recent years, the economy that has been primarily supported by tourism and military has adopted several high-technology firms. Some of the area’s high-tech companies that are operating are Hewlett-Packard, Compaq, Verizon Business, WorldCom, Antel and other major electronics companies. Since the beginning of the city’s history when it was established as a resort town for the nation’s rich and international tourists, Colorado Springs is still a major tourist attraction, business center and resort town. Evidence of that is the natural beauty of the area that draws millions of visitors every year and the expanding business of Colorado Springs movers.

History:
In 1870, William Palmer, a Civil War general from Pennsylvania, was the first to inhabit the area. One year later, he founded the city of Colorado Springs in hopes of building a high-quality resort town for the wealthy. The gold mining rush of the late 1800s led to the formation of Cripple Creek, a mining town just west of Colorado Springs. At the beginning of the 19th century, Colorado Springs was the leading mining exchange hub of the world —it was later  named "the city of millionaires." By 1904, Colorado Springs was home to 35 of the nation's 100 millionaires. The sunny conditions and the dry, gentle climate of Colorado Springs made it a hub for people suffering from diseases such as tuberculosis. It was thought by many that the climate would significantly improve the health of TB patients, and thus numerous sanitariums were built during the early 1900s. In the 1940s, the Fort Carson Army installation was built. This marked the beginning of today’s strong military presence. Colorado Springs is now home to military installations  the Peterson Air Force Base, Shriever Air Force Base, the United States Air Force Academy and the U.S. Space Command. The military remains the largest employer in Colorado Springs, with tourism playing a significant role in the city’s economy.

Tourism:
There is a great deal to do in Colorado Springs, which is why it is considered one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state of Colorado. Aside from being located just a few miles from Pikes Peak, there are many breathtaking geological formations to appreciate and explore, such as the Garden of the Gods, which is a desired location for advanced rock climbers and photographers alike. The city is located nearby to many magnificent recreational areas. Skiing, cycling, hiking or golfing, when it comes to playing outside, Colorado Springs has it all. From wild to mild, you will find something new and exciting to do every day in Colorado Springs. With over 50 major area attractions, there is always another adventure waiting around the next mountain pass.
