Oxnard, California

Oxnard, California is the lima bean and strawberry capital of California. If that doesn’t spell a party, we don’t know what does. The actual party that takes place is called the California Strawberry Festival where everyone gets together during the third week of May to take part in strawberry fun that has been tradition since 1984. Expect award-winning attractions, contests, singers, shows, strawberry crafts, rides and so much more. It’s a great big celebration of the Strawberry Coast of California that ships out more than 207,646 tons of strawberries worldwide. Being close to our favorite berries is enough to convince us of moving to Oxnard. We would move to Oxnard, not only for scrumptious strawberry treats, but for the cool Mediterranean temps, festivals and great neighborhoods. With all this fun that comes with living here, no wonder Oxnard moving companies are busier than they ever anticipated.

Tourism:
We would recommend the one-in-a-lifetime activities as opposed to the usual museum and restaurant visits for this city. The Whale Watching Tour that is available from the end of December to the end of April will take you in and around Oxnard’s Channel Islands Harbor where you can see up close and personal the amazing Grey Whale. You can also spot 28-plus species of dolphins and other sea life. Also, one thing that you can only experience here in Oxnard, California is the Dallas Cowboys Training Camp. During the July and August months of summer, you can come to Oxnard and meet your favorite players, get autographs and take pictures to show all your friends at home. Another event we would recommend would be the Multicultural Festival where patrons should bring their native flags and favorite colors out to show support for your ethnicity. Also expect the best home cooking, vendors and diverse festivities.

Economy:
The economy of Oxnard is based on trade, agriculture, manufacturing, defense and tourism. The region’s strawberries are notorious benefiting the economy and tourism. Trade is huge because of the Port of Hueneme, which is the busiest deep-water port between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Goods are docked here to go to Los Angeles. Agricultural products leaving the port include onions, strawberries and flowers. The largest employers in the Oxnard area are the St. John’s Regional Medical Center, the Oxnard Union High School District, Waterway Plastics, the City of Oxnard, Haas Automation and Aluminum Precision.

History:
Before the European settlers docked at shore, the lands of Oxnard were occupied by Chumash Native American groups. Oxnard was found by Spanish explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo in 1542. Settlers soon became ranchers and farmers that grew barley and lima beans. One of those guys was Henry Oxnard who opened up a very successful sugar beet factory in Chino, California. Oxnard or his other two brothers that he shared the business with never actually lived in the town of Oxnard. The Oxnard factory serviced the people around it bringing jobs to them, as well as goods. After WWII, the city of Oxnard grew. There, houses were built and shops were made.
