The city of Garden Grove is a vividly progressive and growing city located just south of Los Angeles in Orange County, California. History:
By the time Orange County incorporated in 1889, the Garden Grove area had a population of nearly 200. It remained a quiet farming community until, in 1905, the Pacific Electric Railroad came through Garden Grove. The railroad brought tourists, visitors and before long, more settlers. Soon after came the first telephone, gas and electric services for residents. During the next 40 years, agriculture continued as the town's primary economic contributor. Although ideally located in the center of the county, Garden Grove's growth was slowed by two disasters. The first was in 1916, when the town was flooded after days of heavy rains. In 1933, another disaster damaged Garden Grove when an earthquake struck. Following each of these catastrophes, however, the residents came together to repair the damage and continue the progress of the city. World War II had a significant impact on city growth. Service members who had visited California during their training for war came back to settle and raise their families. In the 1950s, available land and low prices caused a sudden building boom, making Garden Grove the fastest growing city in the nation. As the area grew, its rural nature changed to a more modern society and the need for city government was evident. The town was formally incorporate in 1956. Since incorporation, the pioneer spirit has continued to be part of life for the city. At the time of the 1960 census, Garden Grove had a population of nearly 44,000. Today, the population is over 172,000, making it the fifth largest city in Orange County.

Located in Orange County, Garden Grove residents continue to benefit from the area’s flourishing economy. A strong job market combines with an wide range of business opportunities to draw new residents to the Garden Grove area. A city heavily affected by the country’s recent housing market troubles, Garden Grove continues to take steps toward recovery, and is optimistic about the future. Tourism remains a vital aspect of Garden Grove and the Orange County area. One of the larger contributes to the local economy, the city’s healthcare industry continues to provide employment opportunities in and around the city. With diverse natural resources and burgeoning industries, the depth of Orange County’s economy continues to offer remarkable opportunities. Other prominent industries in the Garden Grove area include health services, education, high-technology research and development and professional fields such as architecture and engineering.

Tourism:
Thanks to the area’s prime location, there is always something new to enjoy in and around Garden Grove. Located in Southern California’s Orange County, the area has been sought out as a tourist destination for over fifty years for its gentle climate, beautiful beaches, diverse attractions and many points of interest. You do not have to go far to find fun within Garden Grove city limits. You can shop in an antique store on Historic Main Street between Garden Grove Boulevard and Acacia Parkway, sing karaoke at Azteca Mexican Restaurant or enjoy an afternoon picnic in one of the city’s soothing parks. Next, catch a play at the Garden Grove Play House, or take on 18 holes at the City of Garden Grove owned Willowick Municipal Golf Course. At night, the city comes alive with several happening nightspots and engaging evening activities for the entire family. Garden Grove is also home to annual cultural festivals that celebrate the Korean, Arabic and American heritage. And the city’s Strawberry Festival is the largest community-based Memorial Day event in the western country.
