History:
North Hollywood was originally part of the land that was under Mexican rule. After the Mexican-American war, the U.S. gained control of this piece of land along with the presidios at Monterey and San Francisco. Under the leadership of one of the lead investors in the Rancho Ex-Mission San Fernando, Isaac Lankershim developed the land and built the world’s largest white-growing empire through the 1880s. When railroads came to Southern California, land divisions were on the rise with turf wars. The land boom lasted from 1880s and 1890s, which brought about fruit farmers and more farming to the region. The region of “West Lankershim” was annexed to the City of Los Angeles in 1919 and became known as “North Hollywood” in 1927.

The LAPD and two heavily armed gunmen who were caught robbing the Bank of America on Laurel Canyon Boulevard were involved. The shootout lasted a more than an hour between Victory Boulevard and Vanawen Street in central Northern Hollywood.
