Replacing a Screen

To replace an aluminum screen, follow these steps.
  1. Remove the screen in its frame from the door and lay it flat on a workbench or a set of sawhorse.

  2. Pry the spline out of the groove using a pliers and lift out the screen.

  3. Wipe the spline groove clean, making sure to remove the tiniest grit.

  4. Lay a new aluminum screen over the frame so that it overlaps the groove by at least 1/8" on all four sides.

  5. Cut off the corners of the screen at a 45degree angle.

  6. Press the screen into the groove of the frame using the splining tool.

  7. Use the concave end of the roller to press the spline into the groove.

  8. Use a sharp knife to trim away any excess screen.

  9. Fiberglass screens can be replaced in much the same way.
