Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Seattle, Washington

Seattle, Washington is located on the shore of the gleaming Elliott Bay, with the snowy peak of Mount Rainier as its backdrop. Those moving to Seattle will discover a magnificent setting, a modern skyline, loads of charming coffeehouses and plenty of opportunity to dine out. With positive changes to the city’s already stable economy, Seattle has grown into an international destination - making Seattle moving companies very busy.

History:
Henry Yesler was responsible for building the first steam-powered sawmill in the city; paving the way for a booming lumber industry. The new city prospered until the national economic recession in the late 1800s. In 1897, however, the Klondike gold rush brought gold-seekers to the area, stimulating the economy. In 1869, Seattle was incorporated. Originally called Duwamps for its proximity to nearby Duwamish River, the name was changed to Seattle to honor Noah Sealth, chief of the Duwamish and Suquamish tribes. By the early 20th century, the shipbuilding industry was booming, and when the 36-story-tall Smith Tower was built in 1913, it became the tallest building west of Ohio. Success continued throughout the city until the Stock Market Crash of 1929.  After World War II, growth in commercial aviation prompted Boeing Corporation's growth; Seattle remained their corporate headquarters until 2001. The city was the location of the 1962 World's Fair; however, by the 1970s, the economy experienced another economic downturn. Today, Seattle’s economy is largely dominated by coffee giant Starbucks, Microsoft, Amazon and several other high-tech companies.

Economy:
In the past, Seattle has been mainly reliant on the aerospace industry. Today, the city's diverse economy is balanced on the manufacture of transportation equipment, forest products and advanced technology in computer software, biotechnology, medical equipment and environmental engineering. Corbis, one of the world's leading providers of digital images moved its headquarters to downtown Seattle, in 2003. Nonmanufacturing, however, makes up more than 85 percent of the city’s economy; international trade is a leading industry, accounting for a large part of jobs statewide. The Port of Seattle is the second largest manager of container cargo in the US and works as a major connection to markets in Alaska, the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Coast. With its multifaceted transportation network, Seattle is the primary trade, distribution, financial and services hub of the region. In addition, tourism continues to play a central role in the city's economy success.

Tourism:
In Seattle, you will find a lively, sophisticated metropolis surrounded by immaculate natural beauty and an abundant of recreational opportunities. Begin your exploration with a stroll through Downtown Seattle. Shopping, dining, arts and attractions are within steps of many hotels. Next, head over to Pike Place, one of the city’s top tourist attractions. Pike Place is a remarkable place to browse for unique gifts or buy fresh fish, fruit and flowers. It is also the site of the famous fish throwers—something you will not want to miss.  Of course, you will want to visit the city’s most famous landmark: The Space Needle. Amazing views and excellent dinning opportunity make this a must see. Check out the Woodland Park Zoo.  A great place for kids, this park will excite everyone in the group. Or, visit the Seattle Aquarium where you can experience life a bit more aquatic. Finally, there are some wonderful festivals held in the city every year (mainly throughout the summer months). Many of the festivals last all night and are perfect places for family fun.
