Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Virginia Beach, Virginia

Virginia is for lovers…and Virginia Beach is no exception. Virginia Beach is the most populated city in Virginia and one of the most popular moving and tourist destinations in the eastern U.S. Offering miles of beach line, the city is the perfect place to spend a summer vacation, seek out new opportunities or enjoy a beach bum lifestyle. Dozens of resorts and hotels line the city’s sandy landscape, and every year surfing and beach volleyball competitions draw crowds from around the world. Virginia Beach is truly a one of a kind destination for those looking for a weekend getaway, and increasingly, those looking to call a beach community home.

History:
The tiny resort area of Virginia Beach growth begins in the late 19th century, particularly after the arrival of rail service and electricity. The growing resort of Virginia Beach became an incorporated town in 1906. Over the next 45 years, Virginia Beach continued to grow in attractiveness as a vacation destination, and eventually casinos gave way to family-oriented attractions. Virginia Beach became a small independent city, politically independent from Princess Anne County in 1952. In 1963, the City of Virginia Beach and Princess Anne County were consolidated as a new, much bigger independent city, retaining the name Virginia Beach. Today, Virginia Beach is best known as a resort, with miles of beaches and hundreds of hotels and restaurants. The city is also home to several state parks, several long protected beach areas, a number of large corporations and two universities.

Economy:
Virginia Beach has a diverse economy based on private enterprise, booming tourism and a brawny military presence. In addition, many international corporations are headquartered in the city. The growth in population has resulted in thriving retail sales and has also provided a large labor pool and support services. Agribusiness contributes significantly to the local economy, and there are around 150 farms in the city. Principal products included swine, soybeans, horticultural specialties, wheat, horse breeding and dairy products. Four military bases in Virginia Beach have an incredible economic impact on the city. About one-third of the city’s labor force is employed in retail and wholesale business. The city had over 7,900 retail and wholesale businesses with total taxable sales of close to $3 billion. Virginia Beach distribution significantly benefits from the city’s location being within 750 miles of three-fourths of the country's industrial activity and two-thirds of its population. An incorporated system of road, air, rail and sea services provides easy access to national and international markets.

Tourism:
Virginia Beach is always a hit with summer vacationers and residents alike. Offering sandy beaches and warm ocean water, Virginia Beach provides hours of leisure and plenty of UV. If you are looking to shop, Virginia Beach is the place. With dozens of hot and hip stores and specialty shops, and craft shops, the city brings out the fashionista in us all. For some family fun, visit the family friendly Ocean Breeze Water Park where you can enjoy 16 water slides, a million gallon wave pool and a water playground. Or take an Adventure Cruise on the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, and look out for dolphins, ships and lighthouses. If you are up for it, parasailing is available through numerous companies throughout the city. Then, head over to the Virginia Beach Symphony Orchestra and give your ears the treat they so greatly deserve. Nightlife in the city includes ballroom dancing, theater, concerts as well as line dancing, neighborhood pubs and nightclubs.
