The initial settlement was largely agricultural. The modern day city of Bryan was itself founded in 1821. Bryan benefited a lot from the Houston-Texas Central Railroad in the early years. In 1872, the city of Bryan was officially incorporated. The second major benefit to the city came in 1876 after the Texas A&M University was opened nearby. Today Bryan has become a typical Texas town with a great spirit and culture.
