In the movie, Christopher McCandless graduates from Emory University, but denounces all of the privileges he is now eligible for. He gets rid of all his possessions and journeys across America in attempt to embrace the natural world for the first time, without any possessions. Beaverton’s natural beauty is spectacular to the tourists visiting this place and for people moving to Beaverton. There are many hills, lush forests, rivers and wet lands that make green space something readily available in this city. History:
Beaverton was originally home to the Atfalati Native Americans, or as settlers called them the “Tualatin.” Then the settlers of the 19th century came in dominated what they called “Beaverdam,” denoting the large body of water created by beaver dams. Lawrence Hall purchased 640 acres in Beaverdam in 1847 and developed the area with his brother. He built the first grist mill and made the primary claim on the land. After the U.S. Civil War, some of the settlers decided Beaverton would be better if there was a railroad connecting all the swamps and marshes.

One of the favorite attractions amongst visitors and locals is the Cooper Mountain Vineyards, which is an “organic and biodynamic winery.”  Biodynamic practices maintain natural growth of plants, the use of cover crops instead of chemical pesticides, and natural microorganisms that benefits the crop and the wine that ends up in the bottle. Visiting this vineyard that rests on the slope of a dormant volcano makes a very unique experience. Other popular attractions in Beaverton, Oregon include the Audobon Society of Portland Nature Center, the Red Tail Golf Course, and the many beaches and parks along the Oregon coastline.
