Those moving to Cicero will discover nearby towns such as Berwyn, Forest View, Stickney, Riverside, Forest Park, Oak Park, Lyones and North Riverside.Cicero is also a great place to raise a family - making it a great moving destination of people of all ages.

Economy:
Recent years have seen a large number of retails stores opening in new malls, which contribute to the economy of the city, as well as a resurgence of its commercial sector.

Once primarily a hub of Central European immigration, the 21st century has seen many Polish immigrants coming to the city. This has seen the construction trade increase as many new housing units are being built to accommodate the rising population.

History:
The area around what we now know as Cicero was originally settled in 1857. The town grew and was incorporated in 1869, but the City of Chicago decided to annex 11 square miles of its territory in the same year, resulting in a drastic reduction of the population of the town.

Located on several important railway routes, the town grew again as a result of manufacturing operations and by 1904, when the Western Electric Company built its manufacturing facility in the city which employed many thousands of workers, Cicero experienced exponential growth, mainly by Eastern European immigrants.

Tourism:
Two notable architectural sites should not be missed when one visits Cicero. One is the St Mary of Czestochowa Cathedral, built in the Polish style; and the other is the Chodi Auditorium, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Place.

Universities/Colleges:

Interesting Fact:

  • The infamous mobster, Al Capone, came to live in Cicero in an attempt to evade the Chicago police.
