Rancho Cucamonga, California

Nestled in the splendid San Gabriel Mountains, Rancho Cucamonga, California is home to over 20 parks and community facilities, highly rated schools, and access to numerous outdoor amenities. With all of these exciting attractions, it's no wonder why so many people are moving to Rancho Cucamonga.

History:
Cucamonga's history stretches back further than most of the other regional communities. President Abraham Lincoln signed into existence a post office located at the base of Red Hill in 1864, the first in the western portion of San Bernardino County. After John Rains' death and Dona Merced's departure, the Rancho went into foreclosure, and in 1870, was sold to Isaias Hellman and other San Francisco businessmen who later formed the Cucamonga Company. In 1887, both water and access were provided to the Cucamonga colony, as irrigation tunnels were dug into Cucamonga Canyon and the Santa Fe Railroad extended through the area. Although early settlers planted and cultivated citrus, olive, peach, and other crops, vineyards and wine making characterized the Cucamonga community. By 1913, the community boasted of paved streets, rock curbs, and streetlights quite a list of accomplishments for a small town.

Men and women from many cultures have shaped Rancho Cucamonga's history. Many Mexican families labored in the vineyards and groves, often living in small, quickly constructed camps, located away from the other centers of settlement. During the 1970s, Alta Loma, Etiwanda, and Cucamonga experienced massive and uncontrolled growth due to Los Angeles and Orange County families seeking affordable housing. In 1975, the Tri-Community Incorporation Committee was created to propose the formation of a new city because citizens were concerned about the future and understood that the vision they had would allow the area to manage development and to create its own destiny. The proposal went before the voters in November of 1977 and a 59 percent majority approved the incorporation of Rancho Cucamonga. The city council, commissions, board members, and citizen committees served to guide the city forward with a vision.

Economy:
While most of the city's land area is devoted to residential areas, Rancho Cucamonga, like its neighbors Ontario and Fontana, is a major center for the Logistics industry in Southern California. This is due to its proximity to two Interstate Highways and Ontario International Airport, and the space afforded by the large tracts of former agricultural land in the southern section of the city. In the area around Milliken Avenue, between Archibald and Etiwanda Avenues, Foothill Boulevard, and Fourth Street, numerous massive distribution centers, and even more, smaller manufacturing companies primarily occupy about seven square miles of land. This area is ringed by wealthy office parks, mostly along Haven Avenue, and shopping strips, such as the Terra Vista Town Center (part of a nearly two-square-mile master-planned community in the center of the city), and malls, such as the Ontario Mills, across Fourth Street in Ontario. The city is also home to Tamco Steel, which runs the only steel mini-mill in California. This mill recycles ferrous scrap, such as junked cars and appliances, to produce rebar. With all of these exciting opportunities, Rancho Cucamonga moving companies sure are busy.

Tourism:
For the sports fan, head over to the Epicenter. The stadium is home to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes baseball team, and is a great place to catch a game. Next, the Joseph Filippi Winery offers guided tours throughout the week for those looking to get out and experience the ideal conditions of wine country. For the golfer, Empire Lakes Golf Course offers a challenging eighteen-hole course, putting greens, driving range and a pro shop. Stop by and play eighteen, or spend sometime working on your short game. For shopping, the Victoria Gardens is a large, well-designed shopping mall that offers 50 stores and dozens of eateries in the Rancho Victoria Food Hall. There you will find unique boutiques mixed in with some of your most popular major retails.
