Anaheim, California

Anaheim, California is a proud and dynamic city with a lot to offer residents, which is why people chose to relocate to this exciting city. Unlike other local municipalities, Anaheim operates its own utilities, affording residents and businesses lower rates. Over 330,000 residents call this city home and Anaheim is the second most populous city in Orange County. Home to Mickey Mouse, the Angels baseball team and the Anaheim Ducks, the city of Anaheim prides itself as the county's hub of sports and leisure. The city proudly showcases the finest Anaheim shopping and Anaheim services to suit every lifestyle. Anaheim is located approximately 30 miles south of downtown Los Angeles and 90 miles north of San Diego. Anaheim is a city with rich history as a farming community and area of fine wine-producers. Today, Anaheim continues to be an integral part of the west coast, with its citrus production, numerous family attractions, beautiful scenery and plenty of shopping and dining options.

Economy:
Tourism is the major industry in Anaheim. An ever-growing number of visitors have caused hotels, motels, restaurants and retail centers to be built to meet their demands. At the time of Disneyland's opening in 1955, Anaheim had only 87 hotel/motel rooms; presently, those numbers have grown to nearly 20,000. The rise in tourism has encouraged the city to update and add to its facilities. Annually visitors spent approximately eight billion in Orange County, four billion of which was generated by Disneyland alone. Anaheim is currently home to more than 15,000 businesses. The city of Anaheim has been successful in retaining some businesses that had considered leaving by offering loans, tax and utility rebates, subsidies, and job-training incentives. Anaheim moving companies have assisted in bringing new employees to work in these industries.

History:
Anaheim, now the 10th largest city in California, began in 1857 as a colony of German farmers. The city's name is a composition of "Ana" from the nearby Santa Ana River and "heim," German for home. Those early pioneers considered this location their "home by the river." Farming was their occupation and lifestyle. Among the crops for the first few decades were grapes grown for wine. But a plague in the 1870s wiped out the vineyards and in their place, groves of citrus trees were planted. The first commercially grown oranges in Orange County were grown in Anaheim, where the growers attributed their success to the local hills which protected the fruit against the cold winds coming down from the mountains. Other crops included walnuts and chili peppers. These first settlers were farmers, but they were also writers, artists and musicians. The first public buildings were not administrative buildings, but a school and an opera house.

Tourism:
Finding things to do in Anaheim might seem like a simple decision: a trip to the Disneyland Resort and then off to the beach. And while those are definitely top stops to do, there is much more to see and do in Anaheim. For those interested in arts and culture, there are many great options to explore in the area. The Orange County Performing Art Center, South Coast Repertory and the Anaheim Ballet present award-winning productions all-year-round. Museums such as Muzeo and Bowers Museum have eclectic exhibits and host innovative events. For sports fans, there are several sports and recreational activities. Orange County has more than 40 championship golf courses, including the nearby Dad Miller Golf Course, where Tiger Woods honed his golfing skills in high school.
