Torrance, California

Those seeking fun in the sun need to look no further. The ultimate getaway and residential community is located right in Torrance, California – the sixth largest city in Los Angeles county. Located along the South bay in California, Torrance is home to more than 1.5 miles of sandy beaches, 90,000 trees and within close proximity to Los Angeles. With pleasant climate all year round, it’s no wonder more people are moving to Torrance.

Economy:
Torrance is the location of the Japanese auto manufacturers – Toyota and Honda, as well as the location of Exxcon, Honeywell Aerospace, Pelican Products and Robinson helicopters. The footwear companies – Lakai and Globe have headquarters in Torrance, as well as Panasonic, the electronics manufacturer. The area is also a producer of oil that was once filled with thousands of oil wells and derricks. Perhaps not as popular as they once were, Torrance is still responsible for much of California’s production of gas. Torrance also has a busy aviation port called “Zamperini Field” where 175,000 planes take off every year – which is rather different from the 428,000 flights that once left the airport (formerly called “Torrance Airport) in 1974. With all of these interesting employment opportunities, it’s easy to see why Torrance moving companies are so busy.

Tourism:
The beaches are an obvious choice in Torrance. With miles of white sandy beaches, visitors and residents can enjoy a relaxing day at Redondo Beach or the Palos Verdes Estates. Those who enjoy partaking in shopping excursions will enjoy the 2.5 million-square-foot Del Amo Fashion Center – currently the fourth largest mall in the U.S. For a smaller scaled shopping experience, Alpine Village may be for you. The village features European-themed eateries, boutiques and is the host of the areas Oktoberfest celebrations. There is also the Armstrong theatre, local parks such as the Madrona Marsh Nature Center and Preserve and Greenwood Park and the Torrance Famers Market.

History:
Part of the Ranchos San Pedro land grant of 1784, Torrance was instituted as part of Spanish Empire. It the 1900s, Jared Sidney Torrance (a real estate developer), along with other investors saw the value of creating an industrial/residential community and purchased some of the land grant. World-renowned architect, Frederick Law Olmstead, Jr. was hired to design the new community of Torrance. The project was completed in 1912 and officially incorporated in May 1921.

Colleges/Universities:

Interesting Facts:
