Real Estate in Dallas, Texas
A popular destination for anyone thinking about relocating to the South, Dallas, Texas is the perfect place to buy your first home or settle into something large enough to accommodate a growing family. Apartments and condominium are also available for purchase or rent for those looking for something a little less permanent. Contact a real estate agent in Dallas to find out how they can help you discover the perfect real estate property. Before you start your search of Dallas real estate, here is a bit of information to help you get familiar with the city.

History:
In 1839, John Neely Bryan wandered into the area today known as Dallas. He was impressed with what he believed to be the perfect ingredients for a trading post and eventually a town. He was right. And in 1907, fashion and elegant living were redefined when Neiman Marcus opened in downtown Dallas and J.S. Armstrong opened his exclusive Highland Park shopping development north of the city. In 1930, oil was found 100 miles east of Dallas. With the discovery and development of the East Texas Oil Field Dallas became a hub of oil-related activity. Commerce and industry have followed suit, adding to the city's success and progress. The 1960s was a time of turmoil in many U.S. cities, and Dallas had its share. The lowest point in Dallas history came on Nov. 22, 1963, when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated on a downtown street. The event cast the city in an awful light, as people throughout the world asked, "What kind of place is Dallas?" Besides, there was much to be proud of at the time. Football's Dallas Cowboys began their march to fame in the 1960s, as did entrepreneurs such as Ross Perot and Mary Kay Ash. However, most importantly, it was in 1965 that the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth agreed to build an airport to serve the entire region. Dallas gained international attention as a dominant force in the convention, meetings and tourism industry. Today, Dallas is one of the leading convention destinations in the U.S., due to the city's outstanding convention and meeting facilities, excellent accommodations and endless variety of entertainment and recreational opportunities.

Economy:
Dallas boasts a broadly diverse business climate, with technological industries in the lead. Major industries include defense, financial services, information technology and data, life sciences, semiconductors, telecommunications, transportation and processing. Among the 19 Fortune 500 companies headquartered in the area are Advance PCS, Dean Foods, ExxonMobil, Kimberly-Clark, Neiman Marcus, Southwest Airlines and Texas Instruments. Dubbed the "Silicon Prairie," Dallas is among the country's largest employment centers for high technology. In addition, Dallas is known as a center for telecommunications manufacturing employment in the United States. The Telecom Corridor is an area in Richardson, Texas, north of Dallas. Its nickname is in recognition of the proliferation of telecommunications companies in a small section of the community. The area is a strip about three miles long on Highway 75, north of Interstate 635; Nortel, Ericsson, Alcatel, Southwestern Bell and other telecom companies call the area home. Real estate and tourism are other major industry sectors in Dallas. This influx of new residents provides the metro area with an abundant labor supply and increased prospects for local lenders. The Dallas area enters the twenty-first century experiencing some of the highest economic expansion in the nation. Dallas' entrepreneurial spirit and pro-business atmosphere paved the way for the city to be named "the best city in North America for business" twice by Fortune magazine.

Tourism:
Greenville Avenue is one of the oldest entertainment areas in Dallas and is home to many boutique and eclectic shops as well as live-entertainment clubs, great bars and restaurants. Dallas' popular Uptown District is exploding with new residential and retail centers, with a variety of elements coming together for a shopping, dining, and entertainment experience that will appeal to all types of tastes. The Dallas Arts District is the largest urban arts district in the nation with 19 blocks of culture. It is home to a variety of festivals, performances, museums and local art organizations, including the Dallas Museum of Art, the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, Nasher Sculpture Center and most recently the AT&T Performing Arts Center. The African American Museum in Dallas has one of the largest collections of African-American folk art in the nation. Located in the Dallas Arts District, the Crow Collection of Asian Art contains more than 600 paintings, objects of metal, stone and large architectural pieces from China, Japan, India and Southeast Asia. The city is also home to a professional basketball and football team and plays host to a variety of sporting events throughout the year.

Colleges/Universities:
