Real Estate in San Diego, California
San Diego, set around a gracefully curving bay, is the second most-populous city in California. An easygoing and friendly community attracts newcomers to this beautiful city. There are hundreds of listings to choose from includinghomes for sale, town homes and apartments for rent.

History:
The first European settler, a Portuguese explorer by the name of Juan Rodrigues Cabrillo arrived in San Diego under the Spanish flag, sailing on his flagship San Salvador. At the time, he named the site 'San Miguel', and it remained this way for about half a century. The next major arrival on these Californian shores was in November of 1602, when Sebastian Vizcaino was sent by the crown to draw up a map of the California coast. His flagship was named the ‘San Diego,’ from which the city would eventually get its name. Vizcaino made a survey of the harbor area, subsequently renaming the area to San Diego after the Spanish Catholic Saint Didacus, who was more frequently referred to as San Diego.

The 1800s would see a great deal of change around San Diego, however this early establishment of the area certainly contributed to its longevity as a town and living space, while it would also go through plenty of military controversies before finally becoming the eighth largest city in the United States as it is today.

Economy:
San Diego's economy is led by manufacturing, particularly in the areas of shipbuilding and repair, industrial machinery and computers, metals production, and the manufacture of toys and sporting goods. Since the founding of San Diego, the city's economy has been tied to San DiegoBay, a natural harbor which today is one of California’s five major ports. It is an important link in the nation's international shipping trade. The port also has a growing cruise ship operation, with more than 180 cruise ships docking annually.

San Diego is a center for high technology and biotechnology. Among all U.S. metropolitan areas, San Diego has the third largest concentration of biotech companies. The fourth largest segment of the economy is agriculture. San DiegoCounty is the 20th largest agricultural producer in the nation. The city boasts several world-renowned attractions that keep tourists coming to this California metropolis. From sunny BalboaPark to the historic sites of the Gaslamp Quarter and the OldTown, a tour of San Diego is filled with possibilities.

The 1,200-acre Balboa Park is the cultural and tourist center of San Diego with numerous museums and theaters, a sporting complex, beautiful gardens, an open-air pipe organ, and the San Diego Zoo on its premises. Gaslamp Quarter Slightly east of SeaportVillage, the historic Gaslamp Quarter, highlighted by gas street lamps and Victorian-style buildings, draws countless tourists and locals. Old Town A slice of historic life has been preserved and re-created in the Old Town neighborhood at the Old Town State Historic Park , a kind of dusty Mexican theme park complete with restored haciendas, costumed characters and serenading mariachis.
