Grey Gardens summer rental
May 6, 2011 - Grey Gardens, the vast East Hamptons estate that once housed the reclusive relatives of Jacklyn Kennedy Onassis will be available for rent for two weeks this summer, according to Newsday.
This beachfront property and its former occupants, Edith Ewing Bouvier Beale and her daughter "Little Edie," have been memorialized in documentaries, movies and on stage. Most recently, Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange portrayed the mother-daughter duo in an HBO film named after the property.
The 28-room estate, which was built in 1897, fell into severe disrepair while the Beale's were residing there. The former first lady Jackie O and her sister, Lee Radziwill, stepped in to save the house, but when Big Edie passed away, her daughter was forced to sell, according to the Zillow Blog.
Luckily, former Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee and his wife Sally Quinn purchased the home and restored it. The couple still owns the property and their current renters will be out of town this August, which leaves the mansion available for high-end beach-goers. Newsday reports that moving in for two weeks will set you back $135,000.
