New dorm draws students at Monmouth University

September 7, 2010 - The difficulty of moving to college might be made easier when a student has a brand new $10-million dormitory to look forward to.

Freshmen at Monmouth University in New Jersey might attest to that sentiment, considering that many are relocating to the school's new Mullaney Hall dormitory, reported the Asbury Park Press. The building was named after university alumnus and trustee H. William Mullaney, and features a first-floor lounge with flat-screen TVs, wall-to-wall carpeting and a state-of-the-art fitness center. About 134 students are expected to be housed in that hall, said the report.

Those who aren't relocating into the residence hall won't be without a mordern college living experience. The school also renovated two other freshman dorms on campus, reported the paper.

"We took the other two big freshmen dorms, gutted them and redid them all," university president Paul Gaffney told the paper.

While state-of-the-art living facilities can ease the transition to college life, some students can still have trouble adapting after moving to school. CBS News recently recommended that students bring along decorations and photographs of their families, which can help ease the transition and make their new dorm feel more "homey."
