Basketball star Carmelo Anthony may leave Denver

August 19, 2010 - Multiple sources have told ESPN that NBA superstar and gold medalist Carmelo Anthony is seriously considering relocating from Denver.

In fact, one source indicated that Anthony's relocation is a practical certainty. His current team, the Nuggets have offered Anthony a three-year contract extension. He could accept the extension and then demand a trade, or refuse to sign and force the team to trade him or let him become a free agent next offseason. Whatever Anthony's decision, the source told ESPN "he's going to make it real clear that he's not coming back."

Perpetuating the Anthony trade rumors was the news that he has put his Littleton, Colorado, home on the market. According to real estate website Zillow.com, he listed his sprawling mansion for $9.5 million. That could be a major sign that Anthony is severing ties with the community he has called home since 2003.

This past offseason, Anthony watched as friends Lebron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh orchestrated free-agent moves that landed them all on the Miami Heat. The Denver Post reported that Anthony may consider doing something similar with soon-to-be free agent Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets. Reports suggest the pair could join forces on the New York Knicks.
