Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Milwaukee, Wisconsin stands as a major Great Lakes port, historically known for its manufacturing and breweries. In recent years, however, Milwaukee has reemerged as a key cultural and entertainment hub for the Upper Midwest. Milwaukee’s largest city is known for its Polish, German and Irish heritage, long history of brewing and manufacturing and identity as the heart of Wisconsin’s unique culture. For a city with the ideal mix of business and pleasure, you should consider moving to Milwaukee.

History:
In 1846, the City of Milwaukee was incorporated. A large numbers of German and other immigrants helped increase the city's population during the 1840s. During the middle and late 19th century, the Milwaukee area became the final destination of many German immigrants fleeing the Revolution of 1848. In Wisconsin, these immigrants found the low-cost land and freedoms they sought. The German heritage and influence in Milwaukee is widespread. And by 1910, Milwaukee shared the distinction of having the largest percentage of foreign-born residents in the US. The city continued to experience enormous growth until the late 1950s. With the large influx of immigrants, Milwaukee became one of the largest cities in the nation, and by the mid-1960s, its population reached nearly 750,000. Starting in the late 1960s, Milwaukee experienced a population decline due to a variety of factors. However, in the years that followed, the city began to make strides in improving its economy, neighborhoods and image. This resulted in the renewal of neighborhoods such as the Historic Third Ward, the East Side and the Bay View, as well as attracting new businesses to the downtown area. Milwaukee continues its revival through various projects, largely due to its efforts to preserve its history.

Economy:
Milwaukee is a commercial and industrial center for the Great Lakes region and is home to six Fortune 1000 manufacturers, banks and diversified service companies as well as one of the country's 10 largest insurance firms. The city ranks among the top manufacturing hubs in the US. Small and mid-sized firms, with representatives in almost every industrial classification, dominate the economy. Metropolitan area firms are engaged mainly in the manufacture of machinery; contrary to Milwaukee's reputation as a brewery capital, less than one percent of the city's industrial output is associated with brewing. In recent years, the region has earned a reputation as a center for precision manufacturing. It leads the nation in the production of industrial controls, steel foundry parts, X-ray equipment and mining machinery. The area is also considered a printing and publishing hub, housing more than 11 percent of the top 70 printing companies in the country. Publishers and printers combined employ about 2.5 percent of the workforce. Nearly a quarter of the state's high-tech firms, employing more than one-third of Wisconsin's technology industry staff, are located in Milwaukee County. Between 1990 and 1999, Milwaukee led Wisconsin in the creation of high-tech jobs, adding 10,000 positions. Tourism is also a major contributor to the local economy. Milwaukee hosts many festivals and parades throughout the year, and is home to nationally recognized museums, a zoo and professional sports teams. With all of these exciting job opportunities, it's no wonder why so many Milwaukee moving companies are so busy.

Tourism:
From the historic structures of the Milwaukee Art Museum to the open greens of Lake Park, there are endless sightseeing opportunities in Milwaukee. A quick tour through our slide show will give you a sample of the sights and skylines of our city. Head over to the Milwaukee County Zoo. A serene home to more than 2,000 mammals, birds, fish and reptiles with more than 300 species represented. Today, the Zoo has become more than just a spectator’s adventure: It is a site for workshops, holiday celebrations, summer concerts and food festivals. Known as one of the country’s finest zoological attractions, the Milwaukee County Zoo serves as a resource to educate, entertain and inspire. Next, discover Wisconsin's foremost destination for art and culture enthusiast. Situated on the shore of Lake Michigan in downtown Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Art Museum is a marvel both inside and out. Check out the Harley-Davidson Museum. Including 130,000 square feet of display space, the culture of Harley-Davidson is shown in a range of exhibits that tell the story of the people, products and history. There will be an incredible collection of Harley-Davidson motorcycles and photographs, clothing and rare documents.
