Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Wheeling, West Virginia

The city of Wheeling, West Virginia was founded in 1769 and incorporated in 1836. Wheeling is 687 feet above sea level and enjoys a temperate climate with summer temperatures averaging 72.7 degrees Fahrenheit, dropping to 29.3 degrees in winter. Both snow and rainfall average 36 inches a year. Those moving to Wheeling will love the small town feel that is situated within an exciting city.

History:
A certain Ebenezer Zane and members of his group settled Wheeling in the year 1769. A small creek in the area which ran through what was to become the city of Wheeling was known as "Wheelin," which was an Indian name. In 1793, Zane split the settlement into lots and thus Wheeling became a full-fledged town which was incorporated in 1836. Wheeling is also historically acknowledged as having staged the last battle of the Revolutionary War. In time, many of the earliest Presidents would ride through Wheeling on the Nation's first highway now called Route 40. A famous Indian fighter called McCulloch lived and fought in the Wheeling area and one day he performed his famous leap off of a mountain to escape an Indian war party while still riding on his horse – fact is he survived! Over time, Wheeling became known as “Nail City” for good reason. At least one-third of all the nails made in the U. S. were manufactured here. Not only did Wheeling produce a large percentage of nails, but the nails had a reputation of being far superior to any others. Many nail mills were built over the years. Though nails were not the only items manufactured in Wheeling, they were the most notable for many years.

Economy:
Wheeling is located within 500 miles of half the population of the U.S., which means it is well positioned to do business. The city planners of Wheeling have a vision and you can check this out at Wheeling 2020. In terms of agriculture around Wheeling, cattle, dairy products, poultry and apples are the main movers. Industrially speaking chemical products, mining, primary metals, stone, clay and glass products rule the day and tourism also ranks high.

Tourism:
While on the subject the scenic riverfront that meanders through the center of Wheeling is a major attraction for resident and visitor alike. The city is nestled comfortably along the banks of the Ohio River and the townsfolk are well known for their friendliness and excellent service when it comes to entertainment. It is a place for young and old so maximize your time in Wheeling by checking out upcoming events and attractions in Wheeling, West Virginia.
