Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

History:
It was in the early 1850s that John Allen arrived in the Rio Grande Valley, but it took a further half-century for the town bearing his surname to be established. The main reason for its coming into existence was the arrival of the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico railroad system in 1905. By 1910 a newspaper, several businesses, churches and residences had sprung up in Allen which then boasted a population headcount of 150. A decade later this had risen to 5,300 residents. Allen grew steadily over the next few decades and by 1960 the census indicated a population exceeding 32,000 souls. By 1980 this figure had again doubled as the Texas South area bordering Mexico rapidly expanded its commercial base. With the arrival of the Allen-Miller International Airport in 1993, the scene was set for a further dramatic lift-off of the economy of the area. The impressive growth rate looks set to continue well into the future as investment in the local economy continues unabated. Add a well educated and stable workforce and a low cost of living factor and future success seems guaranteed.

Economy:
Less than 50 years ago, the area known as Rio Grande Valley in South Texas enjoyed a rural, agricultural-based economy with limited growth. Now, the area around the City of Allen is a major international trading zone with sophisticated commercial, retail, industrial, medical and educational facilities. The area has developed into a potent commercial hub for the four Counties in this southern-most part of Texas, namely Hidalgo, Cameron, Starr and Willacy. And the “Rioplex” project, as it has been termed, involves the Rio Grande Valley Counties and a number of Northern Mexican border cities too. The population in the Rio Grande Valley area has increased a staggering 63.4% in a little over two decades, as industry and commerce have combined to create new jobs by attracting many multi-national operations. Allen City is regarded as the “Jewel in the Valley Crown”, combining as it has with Mission and Edinburg in Texas, as well as Reynosa in Mexico to create a dynamic workforce from a population of 1.7 million residents. Encouraged by a top-ten best cities for recession recovery ranking by Forbes in 2009, Allen can look forward to a prosperous future, particularly if one considers that this city has one of the lowest cost of living ratings.

Tourism:
Take a look at the City of Allen, Texas website before finalizing your plans to visit. From fine dining opportunities to shopping expeditions to action across the border in Mexico, there is plenty to see and do when you arrive in the vibrant and friendly City of Allen. The World Birding Center in the Lower Rio Grande Valley is a definite “must see” – check it out at Quinta Mazatlan a Country Estate in the heart of Allen City.
