Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania

Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania forms part of the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area. Geographically, Wilkes-Barre lies in the Wyoming Valley with the Susquehanna River flowing along its northern border; and is surrounded by the Pocono and Endless Mountains and Lehigh Valley. Those moving to Wilkes-Barre will also discover a moderate climate that typically has four distinct seasons.

Economy:
The backbone of the economy of Wilkes-Barre is the manufacturing sector, which produces metal products and machinery, chemicals, vinyl and plastic items, processed foods, electrical goods, transportation equipment and textiles, footwear and clothing.

Although not great generators of cash for the city, the public health, education and local government systems do offer employment opportunities for the city’s residents. The economy of Wilkes-Barre has taken a knock in recent years, following the downturn in the coal mining industry, but a public works program costing many millions of dollars is now in the works, creating many new jobs and bringing life back to the center of the city with cinemas, restaurants and clubs.

History:
The area around what we now know as Wilkes-Barre was originally inhabited by the Delaware and Shawanese Native American tribes. The first Europeans arrived in the area in 1769 and formed a settlement which, in 1806, was officially incorporated as the city of Wilkes-Barre.

Tourism:
Wilkes-Barre is famous for its large number of authentic diner car restaurants, its golf course and its casinos. Of historical interest is the Swetland Homestead, which was built in the early 1800s. The magnificent colours of the autumn are to be seen around October, and from December to March the city has excellent ski facilities.
