Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Wilmington, North Carolina

Wilmington sits between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean in North Carolina. Known as a busy port city, the U.S. government designated Wilmington as a Coast Guard City in 2003. There is a lot more to this city than just being a port, though, and anyone thinking about moving there will discover it is a vibrant and interesting city with a strong historical background. Wilmington prides itself on its innovative mix of history and renewal, and on its wide diversity of cultures. The weather is fairly moderate, with warm summers that are humid but very moderate temperatures in the winter, and snow is rare. The neighborhoods are an interesting mix of historic and modern, and anyone moving to Wilmington will discover how exciting this city really is.

Economy:
Wilmington is currently experiencing an unemployment rate around 10 percent, but the cost of living is slightly lower than the national average as well. Wilmington has a fairly good industrial base with a mix of electrical, telecommunications and other industries, as well as tourism.  The mean income for Wilmington is slightly lower than the average for the rest of the state.

History:
The area of Wilmington was first described to the King of France by an explorer in 1524.  The first European settlement was established in 1739 by the British.  The first settlers brought slavery with them.  Wilmington became a strategic area during the Civil War for ship making and its port.  The Union took Wilmington in 1865.  There was a major riot in 1898, where White supremacists murdered over 100 Black citizens.  It is a dark point in Wilmington’s history for sure.   During World War II, Wilmington became a major ship yard.

Tourism:
Wilmington is a beautiful area, with a wonderful mix of historic, military and modern things to do and see.  It is the home of the EUE Screen Gems Studio, where many well-known movies and TV shows have been filmed.  There are many wonderful beaches there, and there are piers and boardwalks. The area provides perfect fishing and camping.  Wilmington has several beautiful golf courses. The area is filled with parks, antique shops, art galleries and an amazing selection of museums for every interest.  In April, the Azalea Festival has been held there for over 60 years. The annual Jazz Festival is in February, with many famous jazz musicians attending every year. In October there is a RiverFest with booths and three entertainment stages.  There are historical tours, including one of ‘haunted Wilmington.’
