Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Minneapolis, Minnesota

Minnesota earned its nickname due to The 24 lakes located within the city. Known as the “City of Lakes,” Minneapolis, the largest city in Minnesota, sits along the Mississippi River, and offers residents attractive parks and neighborhoods, and a vibrant downtown area to enjoy the city’s growing nightlife. Minneapolis frequently tops the charts when it comes to the best places to live, work and enjoy life. With standard of living on the rise, and incomes among the highest in the Midwest, Minneapolis is an attractive moving destination for people looking to enjoy the diversity and stability of the area.

History:
Between 1820 and 1825, the United States Army nearby Fort promoted growth in the area that is today Minneapolis. The city was later incorporated in 1867; the same year rail service began between Minneapolis and Chicago. By 1871, the west riverbank was home to 23 businesses including flourmills, a railroad machine shop and mills for cotton, paper and planning wood. The farmers of the Great Plains grew grain that would be shipped by rail to the city's over 30 flourmills. By 1905, Minneapolis was responsible nearly 10 percent of the country's flour. During the 1950s and 1960s, in an attempt to reenergize the area, the city built nearly 200 buildings across 25 city blocks, destroying the Gateway District and numerous buildings with notable architecture. Minneapolis had a quiet beginning as a hub for trade; however, today it became a prime location for the flour industry and ultimately grew into the state's business and transportation center.

Economy:
Manufacturing remains the principal component in the city’s well-diversified economy. Minneapolis's primary manufacturing areas include electronics, medical products, milling, graphic arts and food processing. Minneapolis is also home to 16 Fortune 500 corporations; making it among the largest commercial centers between Chicago and the West Coast. Also vital to the local economy are high-technology industries. With the University of Minnesota and other local colleges providing applied research and well-trained scientists and engineers, one of the largest concentrations of high-technology firms in the nation was created in Minneapolis. Large banks and other financial institutions have made the Twin Cities area the financial center of the upper Midwest. Local banks, savings and loan companies and insurance companies also play an important role in the economic progress of the region.

Tourism:
There are tons of exciting things to encounter in Minnesota, indoor and outdoor. Home to the pristine wilderness of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, the world-famous Mall of America and the famed skyway system, which connects 52 blocks (almost five miles) of downtown, Minneapolis is best known for its atmosphere of unique experience. Outdoor lovers will enjoy the city’s more than a hundred Minnesota state parks, forests and golf courses. Lately, Minnesota family fun has taken on new meaning, with new amusement parks and water parks popping up round town. The city’s superb fishing and hiking provide for those looking for a nature-friendly experience. Minnesota’s attractions and activities take on character as diverse as its landscape. The burgeoning Mall of America is large enough to house an indoor theme park, along with all of your favorite department stores. The Minnesota Zoo and Como Zoo appeal to the animal-lover in all of us. Other Minnesota attractions such as the Minnesota Children's Museum and the National Eagle Center all provide entertainment for people of all ages and interest.
