Who is AMSA?

Established in 1936, the American Moving and Storage Association is a non profit trade association based out of Washington D.C. With more than 3,500 professional mover members, AMSA is dedicated to making your move successful every step of the way. AMSA moving company members are professional movers moving interstate household goods (between states). In addition, these companies may provide intrastate and local moving services as well as storage in a warehouse. AMSA represents all facets of the moving and the storage industry: van lines, agents, independent movers, forwarders, international movers, auto transporters, suppliers and others.

AMSA carefully screens its mover members, ensuring that consumers are matched to movers who have met all licensing and insurance requirements, and providing for arbitration of disputes between consumers and movers through its "Household Goods Dispute Settlement Program." One of AMS''s goals is a well-informed public that better understands the value of professional moving service.

The American Moving and Storage Association is a member-driven and offers a complete range of services to its members.

AMSA members transport between 1.3 and 1.5 million households each year.

Saginaw, Michigan

Saginaw, Michigan is an industrial city with an estimated population of about 60,000.  Saginaw has warm and humid summers, but fairly moderate winters, with snowfall of about 36 inches. While conditions in Saginaw have been difficult due to the economy, the city is working hard to rebound and still has many wonderful neighborhoods. Anyone moving to Saginaw will love the distinct seasons and beautiful surroundings. Saginaw has some beautiful architecture, and lovely parks.

Economy:
Saginaw is a city with many economic woes, and things have been declining since the early 21st century.  Formerly a city with a large industrial base, unemployment is high there (currently over 20 percent). The median income for Saginaw is lower than the state average, but the cost of living is much lower as well. As a city, Saginaw is experiencing high crime as well.  The city officials are working hard to attract new business and industry to the area.

History:
Initially a woodland area with populations of Sauk and Chippewa Indians, Saginaw was first described by Henry Nouvel, a Jesuit missionary, in the 1670s. First under French rule, and then British, Saginaw was given to the United States following the Revolutionary War.  Because of its swampy and mosquito-infested area, nothing was really established there until 1816, when Louis Campau erected a trading post there. The Army built a post there in 1819 and called it Fort Saginaw. The word ‘saginaw’ is thought to mean ‘the place where the Sauk live’ in the Chippewa language.  The fort was abandoned a few years later due to the harsh conditions, and several aborted attempts were made after that to establish a town.
In the mid-1800s, a town was finally erected there. Because of the wonderful forests of white pine trees, Saginaw became a lumber center. At the beginning of the 20th century, industry began, mostly to parts for the new car industry. During World War II, Saginaw was a significant munitions center. Following the war, Saginaw has experience racial tensions and a decline in general.

Tourism:
Saginaw has a beautiful Japanese Cultural Center and Tea House, where you can wander the gardens and join in a traditional tea ceremony. The Children’s Zoo is a very popular place to spend a day.  The Castle Museum run by the local historical society has year round events.  A 12 block area is historically designated as Old Saginaw City, and is filled with lovely architecture, shopping, eating places and pubs. The Saginaw Railway Museum has a fully-operational diesel train. There are several lovely golf courses there. You can go for a wonderful horse-drawn carriage ride through one of the oldest neighborhoods in Saginaw.
