Moving to Maine
A part of the Maine experience is getting a good meal at one of the restaurants that houses one of the state’s award-winning chefs. Maine is where the seafood was caught the morning of, where farmers markets dominate the sale of produce, and home cooking is prevalent. One of those places that landed on the food map a couple decades ago is called Maine Diner. Its first customer came by accident when he smashed his car into a pole. After he stayed and had a meal before going on his way, the Diner turned into an overnight phenomenon serving two million people by 1999 when they had opened in 1983. Moody’s Diner is also another spot to hit on your tour of Maine. There are home-cooked meals along with pies, crème puffs, donuts, biscuits and more. If you need to get away from all the deliciousness of Maine, there are cruises you can take to see whales and other sea life, museums, hunting games, outdoor recreation spots and performing arts venues throughout the state to keep you busy.

Capital City: Augusta is the capital of Maine. It sits in the Kennebec County and is home to about 18,500 people. It is a very historic city as it was home to English settlers of Plymouth Colony in 1629.

Population: Over 1,318,301 as of July 2009. Many people are decidedly moving to Maine each year because of its beautiful landscapes and its cooler summers than most national states. Because of the growing rate of people pushing to move to Maine each year—the thought of having fresh lobster everyday is too appealing to some—is driving business to Maine’s moving companies.

Local Activities: Besides trekking outdoors, breathing in fresh air and witnessing wildlife in their natural habitants, there is something most visitors love to so when they come to Maine. That is going to one of the many Lobster Co-ops in throughout Maine and buying some live lobsters. Lobsters here are generally over two pounds in weight and very fresh. In the summer, this is great after camping or hiking. There are also other options to board a boat for whale or puffin watching. There are even summer festivals where you can taste the best blueberry pie you’ve ever had. The fun does not stop in the wintertime. It only continues to thrill visitors and tourists. There is fun in riding a horse-drawn carriage, setting out in snowshoes, or snuggling up next to a warm fire with a great big cup of Maine specialty hot chocolate.

Economy: Maine greatest economic strength is its great outdoors. There are wood products, water power, fisheries, and ocean commerce that drive Maine to becoming a manufacturing superpower. Maine’s fishing industry has taken a hit, however, in recent years due to an increased supply elsewhere. The state in recent years has also been trying to fill a $95 million dollar deficit without the price of raised taxed.

State Bird: The state bird is the chickadee.

State Tree: The white pine tree is the state tree.

State Flower: The state flower is the white pine cone.

State Song: The state song is “State of Maine Song” written by Roger Vinton Snow
