Phoenix, Arizona

The City of Phoenix continually ranks as one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. Emerging as one of the "newest" cities in the nation, Phoenix, Arizona is adding a youthful contrast to its traditions as a frontier desert town and retirement destination. With a growing labor force and population, friendly business environment, affordable housing and low cost of living, those relocating to Phoenix will discover a thriving location for businesses and residents alike.

History:
Settlers in 1870 named the town site Phoenix, a symbol of life rising from the remains of the past. Growth was slow but steady, and by 1900, the valley center contained a population more than 5,000. By then, the city was a railroad hub, the seat of Maricopa County and the territorial capital. During the 1930s, the federal government helped the city through New Deal programs. By 1955, manufacturing had become the city's primary source of revenue, with farming and tourism following close behind. As in other Sun Belt cities, the mass production of air conditioners in the 1950s attracted not only manufacturers, but also residents and tourists to the city. By 2000, more than a million people lived in Phoenix. Today, the city has become the sixth largest city in the country, as the city’s economic enterprise and the Phoenix lifestyle continue to draw people to the area.

Economy:
Manufacturing and tourism continue to be important to Phoenix. Tourism is an especially vital part of the economy, with more than 10 million visitors from throughout the U.S. and Canada visiting every year. The city’s airport is constantly seeking to improve its facilities as is demonstrated by the nearly 80 ongoing projects costing upwards of $600 million. As the result of a recent population boom, the economy of the City of Phoenix has taken on new dimensions in recent decades by moving into technology and service industries. Another sector of growth has been financial services and banking, as several significant processing and regional headquarters operations call Phoenix home. These major corporations include, American Express, Chase Bank, Wells Fargo Bank and Bank of America. High technology and aerospace firms provide a considerable share of the manufacturing jobs throughout the city. With more than a third of the state's entire labor force working in the Phoenix metropolitan area, the city’s population and economic growth have made Phoenix the heart of the state's economy.

Tourism:
By foot, bike or horse there is no shortage of mountain trails and outdoor adventure to enjoy while in the City of Phoenix: Climb iconic Camelback Mountain, see the cityscape from Piestawa Peak or head to South Mountain for over 50 miles of trails and amazing views. The city’s museums and attractions include the Desert Botanical Garden and the Heard Museum -- just to name a few. For the kids, the Children’s Museum of Phoenix and the Arizona Science Center provide hours of engaging learning and exploring. After a long day of exploring this amazing city, relax in one of the city’s award-winning spas or head out for some shopping at one of the city’s many unique shops. Of course, if you are looking to hit the town, check out one of the city’s modern bars, urban clubs or trendy restaurants, all located in downtown Phoenix.
