Just say No
This moving company was over two hours late on the pick-up and six hours late on delivery. Due to being late, the unloading was rushed causing more damage to our household goods and our house (corners of walls gouged and wood trim around doors scraped up. Extensive damage to antique furniture and additional items. Owner refused to pay reasonable amount, took 6-months to get any payment (didn't meet payment schedule dictated by the owner as outlined in his email below. Only paid $1,427.10 for over $2,500 in damage. I accepted this payment only because it was very obvious that I would be lucky to get anything (this was my lawyer's advice). I did not receive the monthly payments he outlined, but did finally received a single check on 1 April 2011 for this October 2010 move (hasn't cleared yet). I pasted in (below) an email I received from the owner operator after sending him an itemized list of damages with photos and actual/estimated replacement and repair costs. I do want to note that he mentions the law being 60 cents per pound, but he has no idea how much the damage items weigh or what my total shipment weight is (at least not that we know of...we never received any paperwork showing the weight). He also said that he would be moving our household goods in an air ride household goods moving truck (18-wheeler that he specifically said was "just like the one Bekins used"), then his two movers showed up at our house with two rented 18' Penske rental trucks. The lack of decent suspension system and poorly trained packers caused significant damage (pure negligence). When they arrived at the delivery address (6- hours late), the unloading job was not as advertised (80% of the boxes were just left in our basement and furniture was place in the wrong rooms and not re-assembled - bedroom furniture in the kitchen and kitchen furniture in the garage.
