Never Again

I initially chose this company because it was stressed by their salesperson (Marc) that they were part of the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and have been in business for many years and so on. So, I decided to use American Eagle Company based on their credentials (even though they were more expensive that other movers). First, they said they would be at my residence from 1:00-3:00pm. They got there at 2:30pm, which was not even that bad. The first thing I noticed was that they didn't bring any wardrobe boxes, but the salesperson (Marc) promised me eight of them. I called and was told that they couldn't supply me with them because my residence was too far to run some boxes over and that they would put my clean clothes in a dirty and disgusting cover used to move furniture! And not to worry cause they will deduct $25 off of my bill, which by the way they never did. So then Marc suggested I go get the boxes and they would pay for them. I'm paying these people to move so that I don't have to do anything and here's this guy suggesting that I should do their job. After this, I was promised by Marc a mirror box to secure my flat screen TV. Guess what? They forgot it as well. He then suggested that I should’ve got that one myself. They then covered all my furniture and moved it. It took two hours to put my belongings (which are not many) in my tiny one-bedroom apartment into their truck. Mind you that I left every single thing I owned in boxes, so the only thing they needed to do was take the boxes, my bedroom set, my living room set, a dining table with four chairs, a computer desk, a refrigerator and the few boxes that I had ready to go! Two hours with three guys—are you serious? I could've done it in two hours by myself. So then I had a second apartment to move. I gave the address to the driver, he gets in the truck and leaves. I wanted to call my wife to tell her we were on our way to her apartment, so that she could be ready. The movers went to the destination house instead of my wife's apartment. He wrote down the address in front of me and they still went to the wrong place. Anyway, on their way to the wrong address they stopped to get the wardrobe boxes that they promised me (five and not eight), but at least we had something. One hour and 40 minutes later, they showed up at my wife's apartment, which by the way was only eight miles from the first apartment. It took them one hours and 40 minutes to get the boxes, drive to the wrong address and come back. I called Robert (one of their dispatchers) and told him, there's no way I was paying for the whole hour and 40 minutes they took to fix a problem that they caused. He said, and I quote,"There's no way they left the first apartment at 4:20 sir, I was on the phone with the driver at 5:00pm and he told me he was still at your apartment.” This Robert guy is calling me a liar over the phone. At this time it was 6pm and I was in a fool mood. I said, let me get the driver he knows at what time he left because he has to keep track of the time he's charging for... So I asked him and he said, “I guess, I don't know.” These people charge by the hour and can't keep track of time? I got on the phone with Marc and he said not to worry, I was not getting charge for the time they spent fixing their own mistakes. So, on we go. Second apartment starts at 6:00pm. By 6:30pm, they ran out of covers for the furniture. The foreman/driver says, “You told me that there weren’t that many things in your wife's two-bedroom apartment.” This guy is blaming my ‘guesstimate’ of how many things my wife has in her apartment for them not to have enough covers for the furniture. They then packed most of her furniture— without covering it—resulting in scratches. Then they ran out of space in the truck. I schedule a move for two apartments and they run out of space. And then they say: We can't fit it, so it stays. My wife's belongings have to stay because these people have no space. In the end, I had to move the things that were left behind. To get things straight: I'm paying three guys $89/hour to move my stuff, plus I had to move some of the stuff myself since they don't have enough space. By this time, they were moving much faster and finished in two hours. Of course none of the furniture was covered, no mirror box for the flat screen—this was put in between two mattresses because that's the best he could do. On our way to the destination house, he charges me where I had to argue about the one hour 40mins of their mistake, plus the driver was arguing that it takes more than 20 minutes for that truck to go eight miles. Anyway, by this time I just wanted them out of my house. All of my furniture has paint and scratches on it, plus they took a piece of ceiling off when they banged a piece of furniture going up the stairs. They ended up leaving close to 11pm with a move that started at 2:30pm—unreal. This was my first experience with a moving company and I have to say that I hope it is the last. If you can find some other company to do your move, please do!
