Low estimate high price
The movers used a lot of packing material, including the last of my personal tape. They claimed that they had to use the material to prevent damage to my belongings, but this was overkill: multiple layers of plastic wrap on all mattresses and box springs. The estimator told me to have everything boxed and ready to move, so I shrink-wrapped chests of drawers to prevent the drawers from moving, and the movers still put tons of plastic over my plastic. It seemed to me that they were boosting up the material use to charge me more money. I complained directly to the foreman and asked them to go easy on the packing material, but they ignored me. The foreman told me he would use about $100 worth of material, "if that much" is an exact quote. He charged me over $200 for material, and then took an additional hour to unload. Additionally, the estimator told me the movers would reassemble the beds, even though I disassembled them myself, the movers refused to reassemble the bed I originally disassembled. Finally, the foreman gave specific information on how I should tip him and his helpers, indicating to me that the tip should be sufficient so he could get a larger cut and disseminate the remainder to his two helpers.
