Disappointed
I was quoted $395 for the entire move with 3 movers and this was supposed to be a set price, including everything with no extra charges. To movers arrived and wanted me to sign a bunch of papers. It was then that he informed me that if the packing went over 400 square feet, there would be additional charges.
I asked his professional opinion about how much he thought I had or if he thought I would go over the 400. He said it appeared to be around 400 with a small possibility of going over. He also told me that when they got to 400 sq. feet he would let me know so that I could decide what I wanted to do. Myself and two other employees packed our cars (3) to help keep it under 400. We also left some stuff for us to move ourselves the next day.
When everything was packed, the mover told me it was almost 600 sq. feet and that I would have to pay another $100. I asked him why he didn't tell me when they got to 400 like he said he would. He told me that if I don't want to pay, they would unload everything right there. I didn't really have a choice so I told I would pay.
I also wanted to know how he was so far off on his professional opinion of how much we had. He had no answer. The move took a lot longer than we predicted because they only had two movers. We had a few small damaged items (( bottom of desk, chip on cabinet, etc.). There was not any major damage and I was so aggravated, I let it slide. I would not reccommend American Van Lines.
