Hidden Fees

I am extremely disappointed with the services of this company. First, they arrived 2 hours earlier than scheduled and I believe extended the amount of time to move me in order to accommodate the hour they had to wait. They charged me for SIX hours to move a small one bedroom apartment to a location that was five minutes away.

In addition, I was told that blankets were included in the move only to find out AFTER signing a cancellation policy that they were not included in the price. The very first form I was asked to fill out was the cancellation policy -- after that, I was given the list of prices for materials (including the blanket fee).

At the location of my new apartment I was presented a bill for $750.00 -- at that time, I was informed that there was an elevator fee (that was not written into the contact when I signed it). I was not informed of this at the time of signing the contract. As I expressed my feelings to the foreman, Nick, I was told- "Yes, I get this all the time".

My feeling is that if you get this reaction all of the time then why not let the customer know up front about the hidden fee. I called the company and awaited a phone call back from the supervisor. Finally, before the end of the day I called again and was connected to the supervisor, Tina. I informed her that I was misinformed about the blanket fee and the elevator fee was written into my bill at the time of payment.

She told me that there was nothing she could do about anything. I asked her whether it was company policy to sign a cancellation form BEFORE seeing the contract (cancellation charge would have been $250.00). She assured me it was not a scam but the way they do business. At the close of my experience, I sincerely felt that I was cheated out of about $250.00.

Response from A Professional Movers

A. Professional Movers would like to begin by apologizing that you feel unhappy concerning the moving services that were provided for you by our company on 8/27/09. In response to your inquiry, I have researched the circumstances of the move.

After listening to your concerns, thoroughly looking over the contract, and conversing with the foreman and the crew, I have found that you were in fact charged according to set company pricing that agrees with those rates published within the A. Professional Movers, Inc. intrastate tariff. There were no additional fees going to be added to your contract. As explained to you by the foreman "Nick" we have a cancellation policy which is $250.00 and it covers gas, and paying the movers for that particular job. She did agree to the terms that if she canceled the move she was subject to pay the fee and she did sign and agree to the move.

Deceptive Practices

Although the move went smoothly, I believe their sales tactics to be a blatant misrepresentation of the truth, and their quote practices completely deceptive. I chose these movers because of their ...

After I was given an estimate of $255.00, I was charged $732.00. They wanted to charge us an additional $150.00 on top of the $732.00 to move a sofa into our home because "It was too big." They left i...

Good move overall, but it is important to emphasize to people who are moving that packing materials can represent a substantial cost if they do not estimate correctly.
