Get the facts before you decide

While the movers themselves worked very hard and were extremely efficient, the overall experience was very stressful and the cost was so over what they originally quoted. We had only 9 pieces of furniture that needed to be moved about 15 miles. The estimator assured us that it would not take more than the 3-hour minimum and that the cost would be $270.

When I asked about packing materials, she led me to believe they were all included in the cost, and when I specifically asked about the cost of a mattress cover, she quoted me at $6. Once the movers arrived (they were on time) and we got down to the business of signing the paperwork, we were shown the additional costs for all the packing materials and we were totally taken aback.

Each moving blanket (and they used a lot of them) was $4 and we needed 3 mattress covers (mattress and two box springs) at $25 a piece. While I understand that they need to protect themselves and really pack everything well, the three hours came and went and the truck was not even loaded yet. Needless to day, the cost estimate was creeping up more and more until we got the final cost of $789...$519 more than the original estimate.

To make matters worse, we did not have the cash available to pay that large sum, but the credit card machine back at the office was not working so they could not take payment via credit card. We spent quite some time on the phone with the office trying to understand how that was our fault but they refused to help us.

The only choice was to get a money order from the post office to make up the difference. Unfortunately, the money order could only be paid for with a debit card, so needless to say, my bank account was drained that day. The unloading of the truck went smoothly and everything made it in one piece with only a few small scratches, but overall our experience was very negative. Be sure to get all of the costs up front so you aren't blindsided like we were.

Although the move went smoothly, I believe their sales tactics to be a blatant misrepresentation of the truth, and their quote practices completely deceptive. I chose these movers because of their ...

After I was given an estimate of $255.00, I was charged $732.00. They wanted to charge us an additional $150.00 on top of the $732.00 to move a sofa into our home because "It was too big." They left i...

Good move overall, but it is important to emphasize to people who are moving that packing materials can represent a substantial cost if they do not estimate correctly.
