Don't Use American Eagle Movers

I was told by my representative that the company had insurance that covered our items in weight. Since we weren't moving that far she said we didn't need any more. What I found out after my glass table top was broken was that the company paid for broken items by the weight, $.60 on a pound. I think I read it and found it odd, but realized she had said our items would be covered, and our mover said he would put in a claim and he would bring one back to us. I don't expect the mover to bring me a $300 table top for $48.00 they've offered me in insurance. I've ordered a new one that will cost $269.95, including shipping. It's also 54 inches instead of 60 inches. I didn't put in a claim for the ruined picture frame I paid over $100 for framing, or the lamp that needs a new electrical system, or the clever little lamp finial my deceased sister had in her home that was probably inexpensive, but most unususal and irreplacable. Some of my items had some marks on them before the move, but now some of the pieces are deeply marred from the move. Live and learn. I try not to be attached to material things, but some things are important. An added 220 dollars to my move is unplanned and we are now on a fixed income. I simply had no idea. This is the first time we let a moving company move us. I just am choking with regret. Advice to others: If you have anything that's breakable, get some insurance! And don't use the least expensive company to avoid the higher rates. It all works out in the end.

Response from American Eagle Movers

We take immense pride in our clients and their belongings. The insurance provided is industry standard, and as we do offer additional insurance options prior to the move, none was taken. The move was booked on 8/13/10 by our Director of Sales (Male) and the actual move was the next day, 8/14/10. There was no female associated with this move. We provided "No Packing" on this move, and as some of the items noted were damaged, we took the necessary care of the boxes they were packed in. All of the furniture and glass were properly pad and tape wrapped, although with the travel to the new destination, the glass table was damaged. We immediately responded to the verbal claim without requiring a written claim, and offered the dollar amount associated with the item(s) damaged through the industry standard insurance. We do appreciate your comments and business, and do not feel that we handled this issue poorly or in a negative manner. You state that we did not respond to your claim, although you do have the insurance afforded you for the $48.00 through an offer at the time of the call to our office. In closing, if you have any additional questions or concerns, we would be happy to address them with you.
