Worst Moving Company Ever
We moved our furniture and belongings from a
storage unit to an apartment about 10 miles away. We chose Progressive Movers after being given an email quote of $210. The movers were booked for 9a.m. and we booked about three weeks in advance of our
moving date. On the day of our move, my wife called to confirm their arrival at the storage unit, so that we could be there at the same time to let them in. They seemed unaware of the booking and complained of repairs needed to their moving truck. After wasting an entire day we'd both taken off work, we were called and told that the movers would arrive between 3p.m. and 4p.m. They arrived at 5p.m., after we'd sat outside our storage unit for almost two hours. When the movers arrived at our new house, we were told that we would need to pay in full before our belongings could be unloaded from the truck. We were then presented with a bill of $590, almost three times the original estimate. When we questioned this, we were told that in addition to the $210 move, we owed $180 for packing materials and $200 for travel costs, including $36 in toll fees incurred. I checked the email which included our quote, and at no point did it say that the quote did not include travel costs or packing materials. I spoke to the general manager of Progressive Movers, who insisted that we needed to cover these additional costs, despite the original quote and the movers arriving eight hours late. With our belongings virtually being held hostage, we felt pressured to pay the full amount. After paying, our belongings were unloaded and quickly and we were not asked to check them over for damage. We were, though, asked if we would like to tip the movers, with a suggested tip of $120 written at the bottom of the bill. Before the move, we were fully intending to include a sizable tip, yet after having an entire day wasted and feeling robbed and deceived, we declined the offer.
