Review of Thompson Movers

I was not offered moving insurance, and their coverage seemed very low to me at 60 cents per pound, that would not have covered replacement on any of my furniture, thankfully they did not damage it. The movers themselves moved very slowly in comparison to other moving companies I've used in the past.

Response from Thompson Moving & Storage

I am not sure what the complaint is unless it is the comment that the guys "moved very slowly" in comparison to other moves. I don't know when she has moved before, but on Dec. 3rd of this year it was blustery and ice cold, and that kind of weather does slow you down some. It is natural that when you are working in sub-freezing weather, your metabolism slows down, and you do work a bit slower trying to keep warm. Your hands freeze, but you still have to maintain a grip, and it is just a harder, longer job in the cold. The 60 cents per lb. coverage is the legal liability of all movers under state and federal law. It is not meant to replace anything. It is meant to fix minor things that can happen. That’s all. It wasn't "thankfully" there were no damages. It was due to the skill of the movers and the time we spend making sure things are moved right and there are no damages. It seems to me that if insurance coverage is important to this person, it is because she has needed it with other movers. This move was more difficult than usual because the weather was bad and the conditions no better. The fact that it was done damage free, which is the most important thing, is significant. We can offer to sell our customers insurance, and that would have apparently been good in the mind of this customer. We seldom think about insurance because we seldom need it, and the few times something does happen we go above and beyond the legal liability to resolve any issues. What this customer got was a high quality move in tough conditions, and there is nothing to apologize for. Any phone estimate is only as good as the info you get, and when bad weather occurs it can change things. That’s the nature of the beast. $330 is still cheap for a move, and with other movers who charge significantly more than we do it could have been $500 or $600. Again, this move was completely safely and damage-free. Sounds good to me.
