New York CIty to Chicago Move

This move was difficult to deal with. The movers arrived three days later than promised with lots of additional charges to my final bill.

Response from Relocation Moving & Storage

In regards to this move, we legally have the right to tell a customer that their belongings will arrive within 21 days to the offload site for long distance moves. We expedited your goods in under 14 days, so that it only took seven days for your items to arrive in Chicago. As for the extra charges, this accrued due to the excessive distance carry, along with a shuttle transfer (meaning the 53' trailer would not fit in the vicinity of the offload). The goods had to be taken off of the trailer and placed on a smaller truck, so it could be offloaded at your house, which was all explained during the on-site estimate, including paperwork that you that was signed and agreed upon. Unfortunately, not every job will go exactly as we plan and if the customer doesn't research the new place before the estimate, additional fees may occur. In this instance, we had to rent a shuttle van on the fly to move your goods—and let me tell you, it wasn't cheap. We had to pay these guys to go out of their way, throw off their schedules, unload and load again with no elevator and to top it off we didn't charge you for your three flight walkup, which most companies would. There was also a multitude of items that you added last minute to the inventory—after the estimate—which was done by the cube. If you move by the cube and you end up moving additional items, it's going to cost extra. For a future on-site estimate, a) Know parking/driving availability (especially for a long distance move); b) Show the estimator everything. For example: Did you know a three-seat sofa bed (couch w/ mattress) is 60 cubes?
