A major disaster

The move was a major disaster. I say major because my furniture had major, major damages, and the company took twice as much time for the actual move than what was stated. Basically, what happened was that the three guys that were appointed to move me kept complaining that they were exhausted because of a major move they had handled the day before and that the office had not given them the proper moving equipment, over-head, etc. Throughout the move, they had the worst attitude, they took a lunch break, and my husband even found one guy lying on the floor. My furniture was not only mistreated, but my tapestry got dirty, they lost a matching table to my balcony chairs, they broke some ceramic and a foot to the computer chair and my dining room table had broken chairs and deep scratches. There were also major scratches on every piece of furniture, missing fixtures and pieces that are now very wobbly. Quite simply: It is depressing and I will never recommend them. Another thing, I was told that they movers would cover my furniture with blankets and they never did. I did witnesses though that they were not given the proper and enough amount of carts to move. We had to give them ours because they were sturdier than the two that they carried. I will submit a claim, but I am sure my loss will be extremely greater than the amount I will get.

Response from America Van Line

We are very sorry to hear about your bad experience with us and we are sure we will make it right. However, there are some facts that need clarification. The estimate that was given was for $457 and the actual cost was $786. There was no in-home estimate—just a phone estimate—which was based solely on your representation of the items. The estimate was based on a list of items that you provided us with and there were several items that were not accounted for that made the move a few hours longer. You also stated that you did not want us to wrap anything in order to save money. Never the less, we have send the claim form on March 15, 2010 and as of today (April 13, 2010) it has not been returned to us.

I have moved several times and this, by far, was the worst experience I have had with a moving company. The relocation "expert" made a mistake (which he did take verbal responsibility for) scheduli...

The move had good marks, but there was an issue with a rescheduling fee.

I was supposed to settle on April 24th and I didn't end up settling on my house until April 28th. To reschedule wit...
