Progressive Movers
First of all the movers didn't make it on the scheduled day and had to reschedule.
Secondly, I was supposed to get 3 men for the price of 2, to make up for the inconvenience, but the foreman who showed up to do the job had no clue about it and had only 2 men.
Finally, even though I met with the rep a week before the move to sign the estimate, there was more paperwork they had me sign during the move...that's when they get you. YOU ARE MOVING, and you don't have time to read 10 pages, word for word.
The rep explained BRIEFLY what was in the contract...DID NOT mention the extra charges for each flight of stairs, the movers' travel time back to their location, wrapping furniture into protective blankets, taping the blankets, wrapping the mattresses with stretch foil (even though I didn't want them wrapped), etc etc.
In fact all he mentioned was things the moving company was not responsible for, and did not mention any additional charges whatsoever. I believed him, and signed the contract. I found out about all the additional charges at the destination when they had all my belonging on their truck ... that's when I found out that the move is going to cost more then 5 times the estimate...they got me cornered.
I called the manager, he said it was not his fault I didn't read the papers before I signed them. True, however how was I suppose to read 10-page contract when the movers were waiting to load the truck? Why they didn't give me the contact when the rep came out to meet me the week before the move, so I could read ahead of time and be aware of all the charges I'll have to occur?
Instead they took advantage of the time sensitive and stressful circumstances and made me sign something in good faith, without giving the time to thoroughly read it. On top of it they didn't have copies of those documents to leave with me.
