Mobile storage units vs. self-storage units, deciding which is best for you

October 29, 2010 - People moving, downsizing, doing home maintenance and repairs or traveling may find themselves in need of storage facilities.

There are two main types of storage, self storage facilities and mobile unit facilities.

With self storage facilities, people generally rent a storage unit on a monthly basis. They have to bring their own belongings to the self storage unit, pack the unit themselves and secure it with their own lock.

Mobile storage involves the storage company delivering the storage unit to a person's residence, leaving it to be filled and then picking it up again when it is ready and bringing it to a storage facility. When a person is finished storing items, the unit is delivered back to the residence or can even be delivered to a new home for unloading.

When deciding which option is better, USstoragesearch.com suggests people consider how often they need to access their belongings. Self storage may be a better option for those needing to get into their unit because it is usually free and convenient to access. Mobile units tend to be a little more difficult to open in the storage facility and renters may be charged a fee, but mobile storage offers the convenience of bringing moving right to a person's door.
